Stop Comparing Yourself To Other Photographers

I write this for myself as much as any other photographer/business owner who needs to hear it. I've done it over and over again. I've compared my actual photos, my prices, my income, my busy-ness, my instagram page, you name it. Has it ever done me any good?

Not. One. Bit.

Now, I'm not saying go unfollow all the other photographers in the world. But find the ones that inspire you, and focus on WHY they inspire you. Incorporate some of that into your own life and work. Every artist steals--there's not really an original idea out there, it all has to come from something.

Decide what it is you want--
A larger income?
More sessions in a year?
Less weddings and more families?
Less sessions in a year?

Then set some goals to achieve that.
I'm not saying it's easy, (I am a terrible goal-setter/achiever) but you've got to start somewhere, and if you don't even know where you want to get, it's hard to figure out where to start.

What do you have that others don't? Or what do you have that others want? Find connection points with people. Make your business about PEOPLE. I believe that is where you will find the most joy AND success.

Try new things! You won't get anywhere new by doing the same thing over and over again. Sure, you  might fail a few times, but you won't know unless you try. So go ahead and make your dreams come true without worrying about what other people are doing. Your path is your own. Make it what you want it.
