Dessert Recipes

I was going to just do favorite food recipes, but then I just kept coming up with sugary treats! Ha ha! So this turned into a dessert blog post. I'll have to do some main dishes at a later date.

We'll start with cake, since that's pictured above. Growing up we always used my grandma's chocolate cake recipe for birthdays. And that's what I still prefer to use today! If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?!

Chocolate Cake

3 cups flour                                                                                                  Buttercream Frosting
6 Tbsp cocoa                                                                                                Softened butter
1 tsp salt                                                                                                       1 tsp Vanilla
2 cups sugar                                                                                                 Powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda                                                                                   Milk as needed
1 Tbsp vanilla
3/4 cup oil
2 cups water
2 Tbsp vinegar

**Mix all ingredients together.
Bake in a 9x13 pan for 35-45 minutes at 350*F

I generally make my cakes in 9 inch round pans, so I adjust the temperature for that.

My all time favorite dessert, that never gets old and always tastes delicious is home made oreos.
I got this recipe from my aunt.

Homemade Oreos

2 packages Devil's Food Cake Mix (Betty Crocker tastes the best, I promise)
4 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 cup Butter/ Crisco (less if butter)

For the Filling:
3 oz Cream Cheese
1/2 Butter
2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla

**Mix ingredients. Bake for 8 minutes at 350*F.

This next dish I found on pinterest, and it is a winner. It's one I can only make for big parties though, otherwise I eat it all, and it is the opposite of good for you.

--I usually make my own brownies, but box brownies are just as good!

Disclaimer: I find most of my recipes for sweet treats on pinterest. That's where this chocolate zucchini bundt cake also came from.

The second time I made this the frosting was thicker and I found I liked the runnier look instead, pictured above. But the taste was the same. ;)

Amazingly enough, the first time I heard of Muddy Buddies was in college! From a high school friend! I don't know why she didn't share this secret with me earlier, but I'm glad it was shared. (I know, I know, it's on the back of every chex cereal box, but I never eat that stuff, who does?!)

Chex Mis

9 cups chex cereal
1 cup Chocolate chips
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1/4 cup Butter
1 tsp Vanilla
Powdered sugar

**Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in the microwave. I put them in for a minute, take it out and stir and stick it in for another 30 seconds if needed. Once melted, mix in vanilla and then mix with the chex cereal.
Put it in a gallon ziploc bag and dump some powdered sugar on it. Shake to mix it up!
(I put some powdered sugar at the bottom of the bag and then on top of the cereal so it mixes a little easier. And don't forget you can always add more sugar, but you can't take it out. :)
